This pendant is the result of the January 2009 Year of Jewellery challenge - the theme for the month is "Marriage".
This peice required incredible planning and careful execution to keep it neat and tidy. The idea was that two hearts, different metals, are joined together by the bonds of matrimony (using non-tarnish silver artistic wire, in this case). Not always a great fit, but nevertheless, they are in it for the long haul. The white freshwater pearl is significant of the wedding day, as is the blue faceted Chalcedony teardrop ("something blue").
Non-tarnish silver and antique bronze artistic wire has been used throughout. The hearts were handformed and hammered for strength and durability. Very very fine wire was used to coil around the frame and the herringbone weave was chosen to bind the two hearts togther. Little silver plated 2mm balls were wired to the piece for decoration. The chain is silver plated, with a lobster clasp that you can attach anywhere along the chain to adjust the length, and there is a little silver "LOVE" charm dangling from the end.
