This Labradorite cabachon has been in my collection for a couple of months now, just waiting for inspiration to strike. It came from an unexpected source...I was searching through my supplies for something perfect to use in ANOTHER piece, when I stumbled upon it once again - and an idea was born :-)
I hand-stitched this necklace using freshwater pearls, Swarovski pearls and crystals, green Agate, faceted sparkling Czech crystals, Czech glass flowers and Serpentine rounds (to match the gorgeous Serpentine rectangles). Shades of green and teal blue with grey accents abound.
The labradorite cabachon was bezel-stitched using peyote stitch with tiny peanuts of blue/green glass stitched into the edges to add a decorative element. I thought it best to leave the actual bezel as simple as possible, so it allows the brilliant flashes of the stone to shine through. This really is the most amazing colour!
Fastening is by green hand-dyed silk ribbon. It can be adjusted to any length you like, just by pulling on the cord (to put the necklace on, undo the tied ribbon and pull to lengthen, then lift over your head. Take hold of the two ends of ribbon and pull until the length is just right for you, then tie a bow at the back to fasten - this way, the necklace is able to be worn at choker length and super-long, without making a permanent change in the length). The silk ribbon is also either easily removed to cut down to size, or to hand-wash (in cold water, drip dry).
There is no metal in this necklace!
