"Got out of town on a boat goin' to Southern islands, Sailing a reach before a followin' sea. She was makin' for the trades on the outside, And the downhill run to Papeete. Off the wind on this heading lie the Marquesas. We got eighty feet of the waterline, nicely making way. In a noisy bar in Avalon I tried to call you. But on a midnight watch I realized why twice you ran away."
~ "Southern Cross" by Crosby, Stills and Nash
This classic song was playing on my iPod when I was choosing the colours for this gorgeous necklace, and it seemed to stay with me over the many hours it took to create the finished piece.
I used purple, blue/green and gold (with flashes of purple) Swarovski rivolli crystals (without holes) and stitched them together with Delica seed beads, attaching more Swarovski crystals to the bottom rivolli (in green, gold and montana blue).
The herringbone weave is interspersed with the same coloured Swarovski crystals at 3 intervals (on each side - very soft against your skin, by the way - not scratchy!) and the toggle clasp was also woven by me, with more Delica seed beads and Swarovski crystal accents.
This necklace is designed to sit high on the neck. It measures 42cm (16 1/2in) in length. The pendant cluster is 4.5cm long (1 3/4in).
